LONG BEACH 5K/10K GRUNION RUN/WALK

THE 2007 GRUNION RUN/WALK on Sat., Aug. 25 was hosted by Justin Rudd and raised more than $5,000 for the nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT) and the Belmont Shore Tot Lot renovation.

g Long Beach 5K/10K Grunion Run/Walk at the Beach!


THIS ANNUAL 5K & 10K will begin & end at the Belmont Olympic Pool, 1 Bennett Ave. in Long Beach, just two blocks east of the Belmont Veteran's Pier. The 5K & 10K will start concurrently at 9 a.m., sharp. Also, the 1/2-Mile Kids' fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (CAT) and the Belmont Shore Tot Lot renovation (pre-registered kids' run entries). This is a fun run that is not professionally timed. There are no age category winners and race results are not posted online. There will be a time clock at the finish line! This run is all about having a good time and raising money for local youth, animals and environmental causes.

THE COURSE
The very flat “out-and-back” course, on the scenic beach bike path will first head east toward the Granada Ave. Boat Launch Ramp where runners will then make a U-turn and head toward the Queen Mary and downtown Long Beach. The 5K turnaround will be near the Junipero Ave. parking lot and the 10K turnaround will be near Shoreline Village.

RACE CLOCK ONLY
We've decided to not hire a professional timing company for this race so that we can give that extra $$$ to our charity. And, from past experience with our races, more than 75% of our athletes do not stay for the awards ceremony or wait to get their winning certificate. There will be no age categories or online posting of race times. This is a no-frills charity run. We will have a large 2-sided digital race clock at the start/finish line so you can see your official time when you cross the finish line.

Prizes and certificates to the top-three overall men and women in the 5K and 10K and kids' 1/2-mile.

KIDS 12 & UNDER
This is a fun run and is not professionally timed. Parents are welcome to run alongside their child. Each child pre-registered in the 1/2-Mile Run will receive a t-shirt. The fastest three boys and three girls will receive prizes and certificates.

WALKERS & STROLLERS WELCOME
Participants are welcome to walk or push a stroller. Those slower than a 15-minute mile are encouraged to register for the 5K.

T-SHIRTS
100% cotton, white, short-sleeved shirts for each pre-registered participant and to day-of registrants (as supplies last). XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL. T-shirt pick at the registration tent begins one hour before the run. Sing-ni early to guarantee your size.

RESTROOMS & WATER
Water stations will be manned at the start/finish and at the 5K and 10K turn-around points.  Also, there are restrooms and water fountains approx. every mile along the beach bike path.

FREE PARKING
There are more than 800 metered parking spaces in the beach-front parking lot EAST of the Belmont Pool. From Ocean Blvd., enter the parking lot at Bennett Ave. and turn left.
